Plane evacuated after landing gear collapses

Passengers and crew were evacuated from an airplane at Bradley International Airport outside Hartford on Tuesday morning after the front landing gear collapsed as the jet backed away from the gate, officials said.

US Airways Flight 5303, bound for Pittsburgh, had just pushed back from the gate and not yet made it to the taxi-way when the problem occurred at about 6:45 a.m., said Arlene Salac, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman.

The 29 passengers and three crew members aboard were taken off the Embraer 145 aircraft. No one was injured, she said.

FAA flight inspectors from Boston were dispatched to Bradley Airport, located in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, to investigate.
